I promised myself that I would not buy any more plants at the local semi-annual native plant sale.

Well, that was a fail.

The good news is that October is really the best time to plant most native plants in the PNW. I’m thinkin’ that digging all those holes counts as a workout, probably several workouts. And I supported a cause that’s near and dear to me. 🌱 Win-win.

(In case you were wondering, I found TWO of my chase plants: a dwarf strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo ‘Compacta’), which is a relative of our native Madrone tree, but without the drama. Plus the rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera oblongifolia), a dry shade-friendly selection that’s as cool as it sounds.)
