Staging for success: gather what you need to make the next step in a task or project easier

A big part of making anything is assembling the tools and materials–or ingredients. Tackling a project or a recipe is easier when everything you need is ready to go. It eases decision fatigue, too. You can break up the decision-making into smaller, more manageable chunks.

I find myself doing this often, especially with cooking and sewing projects. I’ll pull out all the ingredients, measure the spices, or do some of the prep work, like chopping vegetables. For example, mixing the dry ingredients gets you a third of the way to a loaf of bread.

For sewing projects, this includes cutting out the project, matching the thread to the fabric, threading the machine, or winding a bobbin.

What is one small step that smoothes the way for your future self?
