Dancing under a LeMoyne Star

This month, I have been working on a LeMoyne Star. As with many quilt patterns, this one has a story, and it’s sometimes hard to know what the real story is. But I like how the name rolls off the tongue. I think this is my second star pattern ever, and I went big, it’s 17 inches. It’ll be about 32 inches square with borders. This 8-diamond star is strip pieced, and I made strip pieced borders for two sides. I’ve had the blue and gold metallic fabric I am using on the inside borders and backing F-O-R-E-V-E-R. It was waiting for its moment, and the moment arrived.

Approaching zero waste
In my attempt to use every last bit, the trimmings from the stars turned into this mini improv landscape quilt.

More upcycling
Upcycling continues with the transformation of a shabby dish drying mat into this red strip beauty. Definitely a glow up.

$10 bag of wonder and joy
I made a long-planned trip to Lost and Found Crafts on Olympia’s east side. Lost and Found is one of the many second-hand stores for quilters and sewists. During their fill-a-bag sale, I walked away with many gems and was on cloud nine. Nothing like a mini-fabric haul to brighten my day. Inspired by Pola at Pola Quilting and Christine at Christine’s Home Affairs, I am trying to move into the realm of second-hand fabric for my projects.
