I am really engrossed in The Open-Air Life: Discover the Nordic Art of Friluftsliv and Embrace Nature Every Day by Linda Åkeson McGurk. There’s so much good stuff in this book about the healing power of nature and the protection of natural spaces. She also takes an expansive view of nature to include any landscape, wild and manmade. There’s no need to go to a far-off locale or a national park to reap the benefits of being outside. (I felt like I was back in Geography class reading J.B. Jackson.)
McGurk ends the book with this mantra, “Live Simply. Go outside often. Be Kind to the Earth.” 💚
Our current bedtime read-aloud selection is A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers. This is her second book in the Wayfarers Universe. We loved The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. I love the characters and her world-building.
Because I know how to have a good time, I am also making my way through several books on living trusts and serving as a trustee and executor. Memento Mori and all that.
