I’ve been reading How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen by David Brooks which led me back to Kate Murphy’s book, You’re Not Listening: What You’re Missing and Why It Matters. It’s an interesting pairing and both make a compelling case for more/focused/compassionate listening as a conduit to better relationships, reducing loneliness, and improving civil discourse.

I was also convinced to get a good pair of earplugs and wear them more often (blender, coffee grinder, hair dryer, etc.) to save my hearing. (Wirecutter has recommendations if you need them.)

And to put down my damn phone and write more love notes.

TL;DR? This was a great talk with David Brooks:  David Brooks author talk at the Free Library of Philadelphia: How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen
