I’m in the home stretch! On November 23, I hit 40,000 words. For the first time, I’ve been able to hit the daily word count of 1667 words. They aren’t all perfect words, but they are 99% unedited words for the most part. I only edited words that wouldn’t be understandable to my future self.
What will I do with this book I’ve written? I’m not sure yet. This has been an experiment with process more than a desire for a particular outcome. One of the things that I learned is that I can easily write about 600 words a day. Adding a thousand more requires varying degrees of discomfort. But clearly, it is doable.
One of the best things about challenges like National Novel Writing Month is that they push you out of your comfort zone a bit and help you see what’s possible. Now I know 600 words a day is possible.
