In Arizona I could probably tell you. In Nevada, not so much. Lots of pine trees here! I wouldn’t mind a book of pine trees if I could find one…

Last week it was warm enough to contemplate gardening. This week it snowed. :-) Somehow afitting as I find myself turning from Master Gardener to Gardening Newbie just one state over.

Alicia’s blog is up and running on the San Francisco Chronicle site. Her first entry is not good news and she could probably use your ear.

TED=Technology, Entertainment, and Design. It’s a conference held annually in Monterey, California. It’s intentionally kept small and is wildly popular–registration for the 2008 conference is already closed. But you can attend in a virtual way: http://www.ted.com/tedtalks.

There’s a friend in the blogosphere who needs our ear. Alicia Parlette has been sharing her fight with cancer in the San Francisco Chronicle. She’s going on disabiliy leave and soon she will make the move from staff writer to community blogger. Make sure to pay her a visit:  www.sfgate.com/community/blogs.

Understanding is the gift we get in exchange for the gift of listening.

—————–

Many years ago I learned a song. I understood it to a children’s hymn but I am fuzzy on the details. Even mighty Google did not easily reveal the source. Here’s part of what I carry around in my head:

I want to learn, learn about other lands,
I want to find out where others stand,
I want to reach out, reach out and touch new hands,
Because when I reach out to someone else,
I learn about myself.

So I extend this hand to you,
Take it in yours and lead me through,
A day in the life you lead…
It is through understanding,
That we can plant the seeds,
Seeds of peace.
