Today was a special day. Milton D. Glick was installed as the 15th president of the University of Nevada, Reno. It was unseasonably warm but a beautiful day nonetheless. I have known Dr. Glick for a long time and it was a thrill to see this day arrive.

He makes a mighty fine President.

Yesterday, I ventured south for the 86th annual Candy Dance, an arts fair in Genoa, NV. (Pronunciation lesson: Ge-NO-a, Ne-vaa-Da.) Genoa is about an hour south of Reno and claims to be Nevada’s oldest town although I understand that there’s a bit of controversy there. I don’t know how many people live in Genoa (Wikipedia says 248, FWIW) but the paper reported that 35,000 people showed up for the Candy Dance.

Who doesn’t want to go to a Candy Dance? Good time had by all.

“If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.” Marvin Gaye

Today’s entry is brought to you by inner peace. I usually have to work pretty hard at this one. But it’s good work if you can get it.

I am working on a photo gallery of past university presidents. I found several that I like but I am trying to come to grips with the constant dilemma of limited content and limited time. I am consoling myself with the reality that I am going from nothing to something. Always a good thing on the web.

I am often surprised by how many people generalize things to their own experiences. They seem to really believe that most people are like them.

I do it, too, but I also know that not many people are like me.

9.11 is a day of the year that I am happy to see come to an end. I hope for a day without incident and that’s all. This morning I listened to names being read at ground zero. It seemed to go on and on but they were only through the B’s when I turned it off.

David Wilcox’s “Show the Way” is my soundtrack for today: “There is evil cast around us, But it’s love that wrote the play…”

Peace. (and love and understanding)

I get migraines. I have for as long as I can remember and dealing with them can be a frustrating experience. (Yes, I have tried everything.)

I had a migraine last night. A terrible, sick-to-my stomach, head-in-a-vise kind of migraine. Luckily not all of my migraines are like that one.

So do cats get migraines? My cat Sweetie Pi has been waking up early wondering around with a distressful meow for the past two mornings. She seems like she is in pain but for no apparent reason. This morning I was wondering if she had a headache.

Hence my question. I bet Google knows.

Before you can score you must first have a goal.

That’s my job for today–finding the goal.

I was thinking about this idea last night. Where’s the line that you cross between new and old? How do you know when you cross it?
